Lessons from Basic Income Pilots
11-12 November, 2019. McGill Institute for Health and Social Policy. McGill University, Montréal
This workshop brings together experts in basic income, along with scholars in the fields of philosophy, social sciences, policy analysis, epidemiology and health sciences, to discuss the challenges and opportunities presented by public policy experiments. The workshop will focus on the nature of policy experiments and the evidence they generate; best practices for policy experiments; and the manner in which experiments and experimental evidence are integrated into the policy process to inform basic income policy development.
PARTICIPANTS: Salla Atkins (Tampere University), Daniel Béland (McGill University), Yv Bonnier Viger (Université Laval), Jurgen De Wispelaere (University of Bath/UBIEXP), Peter Dietsch (Université de Montréal), Evelyn Forget (University of Manitoba), Sam Harper (McGill University), Michael Howard (University of Maine/USBIG), Nicholas King (McGill University), Douglas MacKay (University of North Carolina), Dominic Martin (UQAM), James Mulvale (University of Manitoba/BICN), Arijit Nandi (McGill University), Isabel Provencher (Université de Laval), Daniel Weinstock (McGill University).
Program:
The expert workshop will take the form of three extended group discussions, each focused on a specific topic and guided by a series of key challenges and questions. Each session will feature a short 5-10mins introduction to kick off the discussion but no extended presentations or papers. The aim is to facilitate an openended engagement between experts from different fields and disciplines, allowing for new challenges to emerge out of the discussion as well as giving space to different approaches to responding to these issues.
