Gonçalo Marcelo (PhD Universidade NOVA de Lisboa) is a Postdoctoral researcher funded by FCT (SFRH/BPD/102949/2014) at CECH, Universidade de Coimbra, where he develops a project in partnership with Columbia University in the City of New York, and Católica Porto Business School, where he is also an invited Lecturer. Previously, he was a visiting scholar at the Université Catholique de Louvain, Fonds Ricoeur and Columbia University. He has written on topics such as recognition theory, critical theory, the economic crisis, hermeneutics, and the philosophies of Paul Ricoeur and Axel Honneth.
Currently, he is working on several essays on the critique of reason, and a book on the humanities. He also co-wrote, with Roberto Merrill, Sara Bizarro and Jorge Pinto, a book on Basic Income: Rendimento Básico Incondicional: uma defesa da liberdade, to be published in 2018. He is interested on Universal Basic Income as a way to reinforce the Welfare State, tackle poverty and inequality, and as a way to answer the challenge raised by the fourth industrial revolution and technological unemployment.
