Arto Laitinen is Professor in Social Philosophy at Tampere University, and has the title of docent in Universities of Helsinki and Jyväskylä. He is the head of the History, philosophy and literature unit at the Faculty of Social Science. Laitinen is vice director and group leader of the Academy of Finland Strategical Research Council project Robotics and the Future of Welfare Services.
Laitinen is vice president of International Social Ontology Society and a founding co-editor of Journal of Social Ontology as well as editor-in-chief of Ajatus (Finnish philosophy journal established in 1926). Laitinen has published extensively in theories of mutual recognition, personhood, social ontology, social pathologies, solidarity, robotics, and has discussed Universal Basic Income in relation to theories of mutual recognition. Laitinen has been a visiting scholar at University of Reading, Columbia University (New York) and Oxford University.
